MEBI 591B: Public Health Informatics Colloquium
The Public Health Informatics Colloquium is a combination research seminar, journal club, and discussion group focused on public health informatics topics.
Objective: The Public Health Informatics Colloquium is a weekly forum hosted by UW Biomedical and Health Informatics, where graduate students, researchers, and professionals discuss topics relevant to the field of Public Health Informatics. Graduate students enroll in the colloquium to be exposed to current research, trends, case studies, and insight from experts in the field.
MEBI 533: Public Health and Informatics
This course provides an overview of the emerging field of public health informatics (defined as the application of information technology to public health practices, research and learning). The course covers core public health topics including: epidemiology, environmental health, health policy, community assessment and international health. Key informatics challenges and IT applications for these core public health areas are examined. Informatics topics such as public health data and vocabulary standards, privacy and security, interoperability and data integration are explored.
The course is designed for graduate students in biomedical health informatics, information sciences and public health.
